Backgammon is not just a game among others. Backgammon is the king and the ancestor of all mind games, its history dating back to ancient Mesopotamia. Through the ages and centuries it was the favorite pastime of emperors and noblemen in many different cultures.Backgammon was favored by the ancient Greek and the Egyptians. It spread throughout the Roman Empire and was popular in 17th century Great Britain. The Roman Emperor Claudius even wrote a book about it. In the 1920s the doubling cube was introduced to backgammon and the game became even more exciting and demanding. The unique combination of skill and luck has always drawn new players to the game and it continues to do so today. Some of the greatest poker champions started out as backgammon players and one thing is for sure: their solid backgammon education has helped them make their mark in the poker world. Some of the most notable players are Dan Harrington, Eric Seidel and Gus Hansen.
